This time next week I will be somewhere in Scotland with a bunch of like-minded men – hopefully enjoying myself! Although the enjoyment bit will probably come in differing measure throughout the experience.
We will be on a three day hike designed to push us to our limits – no doubt using some expected devices like sleep deprivation, physical hardship and opportunities for vulnerability. I have been wearing my new hiking boots around the house today as I have traversed the stairs, prepared a meal and exerted myself mentally reading a bit of John Le Carre; it makes me chuckle to think about how far from this comfort I will be when – next week – I am wearing these boots for their actual purpose.
Some of you will remember my numerous blogs leading up to the Blenheim Triathlon I participated in last June and you will be glad to know there is no sponsorship attached to this year’s event.
What I will say, on this side of the Extreme Character Challenge (XCC) – is that I am looking forward to it so much more than I was the triathlon – even though it may well prove to be even harder to complete.
What would represent an Extreme Character Challenge for you I wonder? And – whether physical, spiritual, mental or emotional – what are you currently gearing yourself up for?
